Our story
Admissions shouldn't be a guessing game.
About Uni is the practical companion for applying to UK creative courses. Every guide is free, independent, and written by someone with years inside creative admissions who has watched good applicants lose out to a lack of information.
Why this site exists.
Applying for a creative course is a second full-time job. While your mates applying for history worry about one personal statement, you are juggling portfolios, auditions, interview prep and earlier deadlines, often across five different institutions.
The information out there splits into two camps: expensive gatekeeping from consultants, and generic advice recycled from ten years ago. Neither tells you that most conservatoire drama courses close on 15 October, or that your sketchbook matters more than your final pieces.
About Uni fills that gap. Timelines, checklists and straight answers, tailored to the 2027 cycle. No paywall, no affiliate deals with universities, no sponsored rankings.
How we work.
-
Plain English, always
UCAS requirements translated into steps you can act on this week, not admissions jargon.
-
Process over polish
We show you how to present your thinking, because that is what selectors reward.
-
Parents kept in the loop
Fees, travel and timelines laid out so supporters can help without hovering.
-
Discipline-specific
Fine art is not fashion, and drama is not dance. Advice is written per discipline, not copy-pasted.
-
Your voice, not a template
Personal statements built from your actual work, never from a borrowed formula.
-
Current, not recycled
Guides are dated, updated each cycle, and written for digital portfolios and the 2027 landscape.

A note on independence.
The person behind About Uni has spent years inside UK creative admissions. That is where the insight comes from, and it is also why this site stays strictly independent: no university pays to appear here, no guide recommends one institution over another for money, and nothing you read has been approved by an admissions office. The advice serves one party only: you. It is also why our Inside Track column is written anonymously: no name means no softening.
Read something useful before you go.
Start with the UCAS guide or the portfolio checklist. Both take under fifteen minutes.
